O'Connor Art Gallery at Dominican University

7900 West Division Street, Lewis Hall
River Forest, IL 60305

Meet us where art and critical thought are joined

First things first, the Dominican campus is a thing to behold! The beautiful grounds include an open quad, chapel, and student center. And, of course, the O’Connor Art Gallery!

Located on the Dominican University campus, the O’Connor Art Gallery presents contemporary art exhibitions that inspire thoughtful dialogue and critical thought.

The desire to stoke critical thought is no surprise from a school with a history of bucking the status quo. Founded as the St. Clara Academy in 1848 by a Dominican educator who rejected the prevailing thought of the time that young women didn’t need to learn science, history, and philosophy, this university was a place for frontier women to learn a wide range of subjects.

At the time, the school was in Wisconsin, but in 1901 Dominican moved to its current location in River Forest and changed its name to Rosary College. Later it became Dominican University to better reflect the school’s history.

The O’Connor Art Gallery is a place for both students and the public to enjoy timely and relevant exhibitions. Strategically positioned just outside the art classrooms and studios, the gallery is a place for creative engagement and expression.
