LEGO Scavenger Hunt

The Oak Park and River Forest Museum is celebrating hometown legends with a special scavenger LEGO Scavenger Hunt! LEGO minifigures representing former Oak Park and River Forest residents, and even the Oak Park and River Forest High School huskie mascot, have been placed in exhibits throughout the museum for visitors to find. Visitors who want to participate will receive the key upon entering the museum and, once all 12 minifigures are found, the key can be shown at the reception desk for a small prize!

A free concert series on the Dominican University quad, featuring Dennis Stroughmatt et L’Esprit Creole on Aug. 7. Bring your picnic, blankets and chairs!

Spend an evening with your friends, family, neighbors and Park District of Franklin Park staff enjoying a free barbeque and pizza party provided by Nick & Bruno's Pizzeria. Bubbles, chalk, and other play equipment will be provided by park district staff.

Wonder Works Ocean Week

Ahoy mateys! Oceans Week: Mermaids, Fish, and Pirates will splash into Wonder Works this August! The museum will be filled with activities celebrating all things fictional and real found in the ocean! Those who visit will learn so many things about the deep sea, and get a chance to meet a mermaid and care for injured sea turtles, among other activities! Dress up as a mermaid, a shark or a pirate to make your experience extra special.

In Ernie's Footsteps: A Walking Tour of Young Hemingway's Oak Park

See where the Nobel Prize-winning author got his start with the "In Ernie's Footsteps: A Walking Tour of Young Hemingway's Oak Park." This 90-minute  tour explores young Hemingway’s connections to Oak Park, guided by Dr. Nancy Sindelar, author of "Influencing Hemingway: The People and Places That Shaped His Life and Work." The tour includes a copy of the book as well.

Bring your family out to touch and explore the different trucks that keep our community clean, safe, and running smoothly. Children of all ages are welcome to climb on and experience these large machines from right behind the wheel. Get up close and look at a firetruck, ambulance, police car, tractor, dump truck and many more.

Microbrew Review

The Microbrew Review is the largest zero-waste craft beer festival in the Midwest, hop on over to Oak Park Aug. 17 and experience the fun for yourself. 

 

Sample beers, ciders, seltzers and non-alcoholic options from over 50 breweries and try food from a variety of different restaurants, while listening to fantastic music and supporting non-profit Seven Generations Ahead’s mission to build sustainable communities.

FLW by Bus Tour

Discover the neighborhood where Wright's famed Prairie Style of architecture evolved. The tour includes bus transportation to and from Oak Park with commentary, a one-hour interior tour of Wright’s Home and Studio and a walking tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District. Included is an interior visit to Frank Lloyd Wright's recently restored masterpiece, Unity Temple. All attendees will receive a Frank Lloyd Wright book as a gift of Visit Oak Park at the conclusion of the tour. Co-sponsored by Visit Oak Park.
