Pleasant Home (217 Home Avenue) is the center of the Pleasant District. This area of the larger Ridgeland District is perfect for walking or biking to see many of Oak Park’s historic homes and neighborhoods or stop in for some shopping or dining.
Along with Pleasant Home, this area is where you will find the Economy Shop. This 100 year old thrift store at 103 S. Grove Avenue has been raising money for local charities for the last century. The historic home it is housed in is packed with everything from clothing to furniture and tableware to art. Don’t miss the Economy Shop centennial exhibit at the Oak Park River Forest Museum.
This area is also the home to Oak Park’s Marvelous Mini Murals. This ongoing and ever expanding art installation runs along the South Boulevard and the train tracks. It’s a great place for viewing some great pieces done by local artists.
