Visit historic Riverside, Illinois! Recognized internationally as one of the first planned suburban communities in the country, Riverside is one of the most historic and beautiful villages in Northern Illinois. Designed in 1869 by famous landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, who also designed New York's Central Park, the entire village was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970. Conveniently located along the Metra BNSF rail line, only a 20 minute ride from downtown Chicago, Riverside is easily accessible by train, automobile or bicycle. Walk or ride your bicycle through winding streets while enjoying historic architectural wonders. Frank Lloyd Wright designed several homes in Riverside, including the Avery Coonley residence and the Tomek House.
